Point
The Niseko Mountain Range and the rural landscape of Kyowa Town
Kyowa Town is surrounded by the snow-heavy Niseko Mountain Range and the Shakotan Mountains. It is a thriving agricultural area known as one of Hokkaido’s premier rice-producing regions.
Benten Island
Benten Island is a small island floating off the coast of Moiwa Beach and is the symbol of the Sakai Onsen Village. In summer, it bustles with campers. The island's name originates from 1911 (Meiji 44), when a herring fishing boss enshrined Benten-sama (the goddess of fortune) there. A romantic legend also remains, telling of a beautiful woman who visited the island to pray for an unfulfilled love, which eventually came true.
Fisherman's Market Stop Kamoenai
Located along National Route 229 facing the Sea of Japan, this roadside station is surrounded by mountains and the ocean, offering an abundance of natural beauty.
Cape Kamui
One of the highlights is Cape Kamui, which has been selected as a Hokkaido Heritage site. The view of Kamui Rock from the observatory after a slightly steep climb, as well as the 300-degree panoramic view of Shakotan Blue from the coastline, are breathtaking enough to make you forget your fatigue.
Shakotan Onsen Misaki-no-yu
This hot spring is proud of its abundant hot water and magnificent views of the Sea of Japan. You can take in the scenery of Cape Shakotan to the right and Cape Kamui to the left, both from the open-air bath and through the large windows of the indoor bath. Especially at dusk, when the sky and sea are tinged with crimson, the unique beauty here is truly moving, melting away the stiffness of both body and soul.
